Some time entry policy properties in Pay Setup > Time Entry Policy in the Main tab can also affect pay rounding.
You can configure the time entry policy to round up or down to handle cases where clock entries don’t fall exactly on a quarter hour. For example, consider an employee who clocks in at 9:05 AM. You can configure the time entry policy to round the clock entry to 9:00 AM or 9:15 AM. This section describes the relevant properties and indicates how to configure them to help avoid pay rounding confusion in Dayforce.
Round Seconds In Time
This setting is enabled by default when you create a time entry policy. When this checkbox is selected, Dayforce rounds off the seconds on clock entry times. Times with 1 to 30 seconds are rounded down to the nearest minute and 31 to 59 seconds are rounded up to the nearest minute.
When this checkbox is cleared, Dayforce ignores seconds and always rounds down to the minute.
Round Main
Round clock in and out times based on the values of the Main Round Numerator and Main Round Denominator fields for in and out clock entries.
Main Round Numerator for Clocking In
The value that dictates at what point after the fraction of the hour (specified in the Main Round Denominator for Clocking In field) clock entries are rounded to. For example, a value of 7 means clock entries between the fraction and under seven minutes are rounded back, while clock entries at seven minutes or after are rounded forward to the next fraction.
Main Round Denominator for Clocking In
The value that dictates what fraction of the hour time is rounded to when employees clock in. For example, a value of 15 means clock entries are rounded to the appropriate quarter hour.
To continue the examples above, clock-ins are rounded to the appropriate quarter hour, or every fifteen minutes. Clock entries made less than seven minutes past the quarter hour are rounded back, clock entries seven minutes or later after the quarter hour are rounded forward. For example, when an employee clocks in at 8:05 AM, their clock entry is rounded to 8:00 AM. Another employee clocks in at 8:38 AM, and their clock entry is rounded forward to 8:45 AM.
Main Round Numerator for Clocking Out
The value that dictates at what point after the fraction of the hour (specified in the Main Round Denominator for Clocking Out field) clock entries are rounded forward or backward. For example, a value of 5 means clock entries between the fraction and under five minutes are rounded back, while clock entries at five minutes or after are rounded forward to the next fraction.
Main Round Denominator for Clocking Out
The value that dictates what fraction of the hour time is rounded to when employees clock out. For example, a value of 10 means clock entries are rounded to the appropriate sixth of an hour.
To continue the examples above, clock-outs are rounded to the appropriate sixth of an hour, or every 10 minutes. Clock entries made less than five minutes past a 10-minute mark are rounded back, clock entries five minutes or later after a 10-minute mark are rounded forward. For example, when an employee clocks out at 8:03 AM, their clock entry is rounded to 8:00 AM. Another employee clocks out at 8:16 AM, and their clock entry is rounded forward to 8:20 AM.
By default, all of these rounding settings are set to 0. When these are all set to zero, Dayforce doesn’t round in or out clock entries.
