Time Entry Policies

Time entry policies dictate which time entry method employees use to record their work. Additionally, these policies can enforce optional rules and validations that Dayforce applies when employees record their worked time. For example, when an employee clocks in, their time entry policy rounds the time to the nearest quarter-hour, or considers clock entries that are five minutes early or late as being on time.

Time entry policies are broken out into several groups of related settings:

  • Main: These settings apply when employees clock in and out for work. They dictate whether times are rounded, whether late or early clock entries are adjusted, or how late or early an employee can clock in without needing manager approval.
  • Meals and Breaks: These settings are similar to the Main settings, but they validate meal and break clock entries. You can configure the time entry policy to round meal and break times, allow a grace period for long or short breaks or meals. You can also configure time entry policies to automatically record meals and breaks on shifts with a qualifying length, even if an employee forgot to clock out for them.
  • Meal & Break Rules: These settings dictate what duration shifts must be to qualify for meals or breaks, as well as the duration and number of breaks required for qualifying shifts.
  • Time Capture: These settings dictate how employees assigned the time entry policy enter their worked time in Dayforce. They also control time entry in Dayforce, such as whether employees must record labor metrics, when they report their time using the timesheet, or specifics on how clocks accept directionless clock entries. These settings also affect time entry functionality in timesheet features and the self-service clock in Work > Time Clock.
  • Tardy Rules: These settings dictate how Dayforce tracks employees who clock in early or late, and how employees are paid for extra and missed time.
  • Meal Break Penalty: These settings dictate if employees can waive missed breaks or meals on their timesheets, and whether they’re eligible for pay premiums if they waive meals or breaks.
  • Break Attestation: These settings dictate whether employees and managers can report missed breaks in their timesheets, on the Dayforce Touch Clock or on the Clock+. You can also configure minimum shift and break lengths that determine whether an employee is eligible to report a missed break.
  • Meal Subsidy: These settings dictate whether employees can record meal subsidies on their timesheets.
  • Problem Configuration: These settings control the severity of several clock entry validations performed by Dayforce. Many of these validations are system-generated and can’t be edited.
  • Labor Metrics: These settings control whether employees can use labor metrics to record and track specific work details in their timesheets and schedules.
  • Crossing-Linking: These settings control how labor metrics are populated when employees perform multi-transfers on the Dayforce Touch Clock and Clock+.
