Tardy Rules Settings Example

The following is an example configuration of the tardy rules:

Example configuration of the tardy rules.

With this configuration, Dayforce marks the time and attendance records of any employee who is late or early by up to 30 minutes. For example, an employee is late to work by 25 minutes; Dayforce marks those 25 minutes with the L-In1 pay code.

The rules are configured to use only two different pay codes and ranges of time.

The second set of settings covers any time beyond 30 minutes late or early. For example, when an employee is late by more than 30 minutes, they’re assigned the L-In2 pay code.

The tardy rules work with the configurations of the selected pay codes and can accomplish a variety of business rules regarding arriving or leaving early or late. With this configuration, the pay codes are configured such that:

  • EarlyIn, L-In1, E-Out1, LateOut, L-In2, E-Out2 are unpaid.
  • EarlyIn and LateOut (the pay codes used to mark employees who arrive early or leave late by up to 30 minutes) are configured with a paid Resolution Code.
  • L-In1, E-Out1, L-In2, and E-Out2 are configured with an unpaid Resolution Code.

Resolution codes are pay codes used by Dayforce to mark any late or early time that a manager has reviewed and approved. When a manager reviews the time and attendance records for their employees, any late or early times are highlighted for them. The manager can then approve the resolution, in which case the Resolution Code replaces the pay code used by the tardy rules, or the manager can select a different pay code or edit the times.

Each pay code can be configured as paid or unpaid by default, and with a Resolution Code selected. See Pay Codes.

This configuration accomplishes the following:

  • When an employee is late or early by up to 30 minutes, the timesheet is marked for the manager’s review and employees aren’t paid for this time.
  • If the manager approves an employee arriving to work early or leaving work late by up to 30 minutes, the employee is paid for this time.
  • Employees who arrive to work more than 30 minutes early, or work more than 30 minutes late, are paid for this time.

Note: For managers (or appropriate users) to approve late or early time and assign resolution codes, you need to enable tardy processing. To do this, select the Use Tardy Rule checkbox in System Admin > Client Properties in the Properties tab, in the Time and Attendance section.
