Staff assignment rules control how Dayforce populates the suggested employees list in the Find Candidate dialog box when you reassign shifts and fill unfilled shifts. By adding rules to your staff assignment policy, you can control the order in which employees are listed, as well as the criteria by which they’re listed, when determining a candidate for a shift. For example, you can configure your staff assignment policy to order employees qualified to work unfilled shifts based on their base rate or seniority.
You can configure more than one rule in your staff assignment policy ruleset. Dayforce examines your ruleset hierarchy when determining how to order your suggested employees lists, so employees are ordered based on your first rule’s criteria, and the list is further adjusted (if applicable) based on the next rule in your hierarchy. For example, say you configure your ruleset hierarchy with the Order by Employee Property rule first and the Order by Employee Seniority rule second. If a location only has a single employee that’s assigned an employee property, that employee would be listed first in the Find Candidate dialog box, and then the rest of the employees listed would be ordered by seniority.
A staff assignment policy forms the sequence in which different employee shift assignments are evaluated. The sequence in which you configure your staff assignment rules and qualifiers act to sort and filter employee assignments based on the following rule types:
- Employee attributes (configured using employee-based ordering staff assignment rules)
- Shift attributes (configured using shift-based ordering staff assignment rules)
- Compatibility of the employee with the shift (configured using assignment-based ordering staff assignment rules)
