Shift Premium From Employee Property Rule

The Shift Premium Rule is used to pay a separate shift premium on all eligible segments based on the value in a specific employee property. This means that the premium rate varies from week to week and from employee to employee. The value can be used as either a rate increment or multiplier.

The first step in configuring this functionality is to create an employee property that specifies which premium rate applies to the employee. In HR Admin > Employee Properties, add an employee property with Numeric selected in the Data Type drop-down list, and One at a time selected in the Assignable drop-down list.

Note: See Configure Employee Properties.

Next, assign the premium rate to employees in the Employment > Employee Properties screen in People using this employee property:

Production Bonus employee property.

In the example above, a rate of 0.1 is specified for the Production Bonus employee property.

Rate type

Select whether to increment or multiply the rate value specified in the employee property to determine the employee’s premium. For example:

  • Incremental: Increments the rate, which means that the employee property value is considered to be the hourly rate of the new premium. For example, if the eligible worked time is two hours long and the employee property value is 2, then the new premium is $4.00 (that is, a 2-hour premium at a $2.00 rate).
  • Multiplier: Multiplies the rate of the eligible segment. For example, an employee property value of 0.25 results in the employee’s premium being set at 25% of the original amount.
Eligible Pay Codes The pay codes that mark eligible work. Only time with one of the selected pay codes is eligible to earn shift premiums. Leave blank and the rule doesn’t consider pay codes when looking for eligible work.
Ineligible Pay Codes The pay codes that mark ineligible time. Time with one of the selected pay codes doesn’t earn shift premiums, even if it occurs within the shift premium time. Leave blank and the rule doesn’t consider pay codes when marking time as ineligible.
Eligible Pay Categories The pay categories that mark eligible work. Only time with one of the selected pay categories is eligible to earn shift premiums. Leave blank and the rule doesn’t consider pay categories when looking for eligible work.
