Set Up Superannuation Funds

Superannuation schemes are set up in the Payees tab in Payroll Setup > Third Party Payees. All superannuation funds/schemes should be set up in the Payees screen for successful disbursement of funds into those accounts.

Important: Selections that you make in the Payee Category drop-down list can result in changes to the fields available to you in the Payees tab's General section.

Before You Begin: Ensure you have set up the following prerequisites:

To set up default superannuation schemes:

    1. Go to Payroll Setup > Third Party Payees and click the Payees tab.
    2. In the General section, enter the name for the scheme or fund.
    3. Ensure that the Operating Country drop-down list is set to Australia.
    4. In the Payee Category drop-down list, select Default Superannuation Scheme. This default scheme will automatically be associated with the system Superannuation Employer memo deduction. A memo deduction does not impact an employee’s earnings or taxable wages. It is in the Memo Information section of the earning statement. See Stapled Super Funds.
    5. Enter a description for the scheme.
    6. Use the Assign To drop-down list to designate if the payee can be assigned to earnings or deductions.
    7. Enter the reference code your organization uses for this payee.
    8. Enter the Australian Business Number (ABN) for the superannuation scheme.
    9. Enter the Unique Superannuation Identifier (USI) for the superannuation scheme.
    10. In the Payment Method section of the payee details, select a third party payee method.
    11. Click Save.

Stapled Super Funds

As part of Australian Tax Office (ATO) compliance, it is now mandatory for employers to request stapled super funds if an employee has not provided the information. Dayforce can track the super liability while waiting for the stapled super fund details to be provided.

Employees that do not have a record on the Superannuation screen with a fund name, will not be assigned to the employer’s default Superannuation scheme. Instead, they will be assigned to an unassigned default superannuation fund. This is a system payee and is available for all Australian customers. An employee’s payslip will display the Superannuation guarantee contribution (SGC) amount with the fund name shown as ‘Unassigned default superannuation fund’.

When the Superstream Alternative File Format (SAFF) is processed, these employees with unassigned fund will not appear in that file. After an employee’s superannuation fund details are updated in the Payroll > Superannuation screen of People:

  • The unassigned SGC amount will be paid out in the next SAFF run after a committed pay period.
  • The amount from the unassigned fund will be moved to APRA fund and it will be reflected in the payslip as follows:

Unassigned Default Superannuation Fund form as it's reflected in the payslip.
