You can set up school year calendars in Dayforce so that the application properly applies school-related rules in schedule rule policies.
Role feature access: Application Container > People > Employee Profile > Work > School Year Calendar and Schedule Setup > Schedule Setup > School Year
For example, you can configure Dayforce to ensure that minors aren’t scheduled more than a set number of hours per day or week during the school year. For this to work, you need to use a school year calendar to dictate when the school year starts and ends, and which days during the year are non-school days.
Typically, you configure school year calendars in Schedule Setup > School Year, but you can also configure them in People, in the Work > School Year Calendar screen. The school year calendars that you create in Schedule Setup and People have two major differences:
- Schedule Setup: You must specifically define the areas of the organization that the school year calendar applies to.
- People: School year calendars are available to the organizational unit that you manage, or (if you manage multiple locations) the organizational unit that you select in the organizational hierarchy.
For each school year calendar that you configure, you can define as many years as necessary. For example, you could set up one school year calendar for “Park Street Collegiate Institute,” and define the school and non-school days in the same calendar each year. Alternatively, if all of the schools in one school board or district have the same school and non-school days, you could set up one school year calendar that applies to all of the schools in that board or district.
