Schedule Costs and Actual Costs

This section describes how to configure the schedule and actual costing used to display values in the Schedule and Actual columns of the Plan feature by defining what time contributes to labor cost and hours KPIs.

The schedule and actual costing estimates what a schedule would cost if every scheduled employee worked the times they were scheduled, taking into account the pay rules configured in Dayforce and applied to the employee’s pay policy.

For example, if you schedule an employee to work 48 hours in a week, and their pay policy has a Weekly Overtime rule configured that pays out overtime for any time worked beyond 40 hours a week, the schedule costing functionality takes into account the employee earning eight hours of overtime when it estimates the schedule’s cost.

To access this schedule costing functionality, click Cost in the Schedules feature for a given week. You can also configure Dayforce to use the results of these calculations to populate the schedule cost KPIs in the Schedule column.

Additionally, you can specify what time, based on pay code and pay categories, contributes to KPIs tracking costs in the Schedule and Actual columns of Plan. For example, you can configure Dayforce so that time spent in training doesn’t contribute to the Labor Cost KPI in the Schedule or Actual columns.

To configure schedule and actual costing, you must:

  1. Define KPI Labor Metrics.
  2. Assign KPI Labor Metrics to KPIs.
  3. Schedule the Schedule Cost/Time Aggregation background task.
  4. Enable the schedule and actual cost functionality in Dayforce.
