Rating Scale Configuration

You can add and configure rating scale sets in the Rating Scale feature of Dayforce. These rating scales are used in the following features:

  • Performance
  • Predictive Analytics
  • Succession Planning
  • Compensation

Administrators usually configure more than one rating scale for their organization because performance review forms can use different rating scales in each section. For example, a review form template might use the overall rating scale 1-Below Expectations to 5-Exceeds Expectations, while an individual section of the review form that rates goal performance might use the rating scale 1-Not Achieved to 3-Fully Achieved.

The following screenshot provides an example of goals in a review form that are rated on a 5-point scale defined in the Rating Scale feature:

Goals rated on a 5-point scale in a review form.

The first point in all rating scales is always Not Rated, which means that the user hasn’t selected a rating. So, although the scale has six points, the first point (Not Rated) doesn’t affect the rating of the form.

Continuing the previous example, the user rates themselves 3/5 Partially Achieved on the first goal, and the second goal is Not Rated. As a result, the average rating of the section is 3/5 Partially Achieved; the second goal doesn’t affect the section rating.

Performance Rating Base Scale

When you go to the Rating Scale feature, Dayforce shows the Performance Rating Base Scale by default. This scale is used as a base scale to make sure that performance ratings are represented consistently in other modules. This scale is used for performance ratings in the Predictive Analytics, Compensation, and Succession Planning features and is only used in Performance if it’s selected during configuration.

The Performance Rating Base Scale is a three-point scale, which includes a low, medium, and high value.

When other areas of Dayforce pull data from reviews that use a custom rating scale, the values are converted to the base scale according to the low, medium, or high range in the custom scale. For example, a rating of 5 on a custom scale with minimum value 0 and maximum value 10 would be represented as Medium on the Performance Rating Base Scale.

Note: You can’t delete the Performance Rating Base Scale, but, you can change the minimum and maximum values for the default labels.
