If you have employees who belong to a pay group that uses a piecework calculation (that is, [pieces] * [rate] = amount) rather than an hourly calculation ([hours] * [rate] = amount) to determine wages, you need to configure Dayforce to track the work completed and show the employee earnings in earning statements.
To set up this process in Dayforce:
- Go to Org Setup > Docket and verify that you have dockets set up. You might need to set up a zero-rate docket to track piece work that isn’t paid, but still needs to be tracked. See Create Dockets.
- Set up a pay category for piece work. See Add Pay Categories.
- Set up a pay code for piece work with the associated pay category. Also, make sure that you select SPAH in the Hours KPI column and Total Labor Cost in the Amount KPI column. See Pay Codes.
- Add the Piece Rate Rule to your pay policy. See Piece Rate Rule.
- Configure how piece rate earnings are shown in earning statements. See Display Piece and Rate Counts on Earning Statements.
- Select the Display Docket Piece Quantity on Earning Statement in your pay group.
- Configure the earnings using one or more of these settings:
- Allow Piece Quantity Without Pay (shows only piece quantity)
- Display Piece Quantity Instead of Hours (shows piece quantity and pay)
- Adjust Docket Rate During Payroll Calc.
- Configure the employee record by assigning them the correct pay policy and pay group.

The following reports show piece and rate counts, when appropriate:
- Earning Statement Report
- Payroll Register Report
- Payroll Summary Report
