Pay Holidays

Dayforce has system and custom pay holidays. System holidays are always legal bank holidays specific to each country and are used to generate the pay dates in a pay calendar. Dayforce maintains and updates system holidays. Custom pay holidays are holidays that your organization creates and are used to enter holidays in addition to the system pay holidays in Dayforce.

Dayforce needs to be configured to pay employees holiday pay, or to apply different overtime rates or premiums for work performed on holidays.

  • Pay policies and their pay rules determine how employees are paid for holidays or for work performed during a holiday. You assign these pay policies to employees. See Configure Pay Policies.
  • Employees need to be assigned a specific holiday group to be eligible for holiday pay. You assign a holiday group to employees in their employee record in People in the Employment > Employment Settings screen.

The general workflow to configure holidays in Dayforce is as follows:

  1. If your employees are eligible for holidays that aren't included in the system pay holidays, you need to create a custom holiday for these employees.
  2. For example, for a US company based in California, you need to create a custom holiday for Cesar Chavez Day, because this holiday isn’t included in the list of Dayforce system pay holidays. See Configure Pay Holidays.
  3. Create a holiday group that includes all of the holidays that your employees are eligible for. See Configure Holiday Groups.
  4. For example, if full-time employees get Christmas Day and Boxing Day off as holidays, but part-time employees only have Christmas Day off, among other holidays, you need to create two holiday groups so that one can be assigned to full-time employees and the other (without Boxing Day holiday) to part-time employees. Holiday groups can also be used to create groups for specific locations within a country.
  5. Assign a holiday group to an employee in their employee record in People. If you don’t assign a group, employees aren't eligible for holiday pay. You could also assign holiday groups to pay groups. If the properties of a pay group don’t include a specific holiday group, the pay dates use the system holidays.
