The Pay Exception Rule provides managers with the ability to review and authorize pay before automatically paying exception time. Using this rule, users can define which hours require a manager-authorized approval and which hours are paid normally. Dayforce pays exception hours only if the manager authorizes the exception pay for that week in Time Review.
Before You Begin: You should configure this rule only if your organization’s time entry policy is configured to use weekly authorization functionality. For more information about enabling weekly authorization, see Time Capture Settings.
For example, a salary non-exempt employee tracks their time in the Workforce Management (WFM) module to calculate the amount of overtime earned. The Payroll module in Dayforce is responsible for paying their salary hours and only their overtime pay should be sent to Payroll. The employee worked 39 hours in one week and, of those 39 hours, 38 hours were regular (that is, they were assigned the REG pay category) and 1 hour was daily overtime. The employee is paid for their 38 regular hours through the Payroll module plus the 1 hour of overtime provided by WFM. The 38 hours of REG time on WFM is considered exception time and isn’t sent to Payroll.
Important: This rule should be the very last rule assigned to the pay policy hierarchy and must include pay codes or pay categories that require manager authorization. Without this setup, the rule will set every pay code or pay category as an exception and the employee won’t be paid at all.
