Overview of the Garnishments Screen for Canadian Employees

Before You Begin: For more information on accessing the Payroll > Garnishments screen, see The People Feature.

When you click Payroll > Garnishments in the sidebar of People for a Canadian employee, the application displays a list of the employee's active garnishment records, if any. As seen in the following screenshot, active garnishments are those that have a current effective date (1) and the Active checkbox selected (2):

To view all active and inactive garnishments, you need to click the Active/All switch at the top right of the garnishment list. You can switch between Active and All, as needed.

Click the checkbox next to the name of the garnishment to select it. You can select one or more garnishments to perform actions on them, like deleting or copying.

In the Active column, select the checkbox to activate or deactivate a garnishment from being calculated. All of the other columns of the garnishment record are read-only.

You can click the garnishment record to expand and manage its details. Click again to collapse it. An expanded garnishment entry contains two tabs (illustrated in a screenshot following the list):

  • The Properties tab: Contains specifics about the garnishment.
  • The Excluded Earnings tab: Lists earnings to be excluded from garnishments.

The Properties tab contains the following sections:

  • General Details: Contains high-level information about the garnishment record, including name, when it is effective, garnishment type, issuing province as well as whether it's active.
  • Order Details: Contains details about the court order, amount or percentage of the garnishment, subsistence rules, limits, as well as whether reimbursements are considered as disposable income.
  • Payee Details: Contains information about the garnishment payee.
  • Additional Details: Contains settings that are specific to the type of garnishment and issuing province. This can include handling fees, parameters that affect the minimum subsistence calculation, and viewing the garnishment balance.

These sections are illustrated in the following screenshot:
