The Overtime Banking Rule is used to support Dayforce’s overtime banking functionality. The rule specifies which pay codes and pay categories contribute to the overtime banking balance. See Overtime Banking Configuration.
Setting | Description |
---|---|
Deposit pay code | Determines the pay code applied to banked overtime. This in turn controls what balance the banked time is deposited into, because the pay code you select needs to be linked to the appropriate balance. See Configure Balances. |
Deposit pay category | Determines the pay category applied to banked overtime. Leave blank and the rule applies the default pay category associated with the pay code. |
Max unit banked | Determines the maximum amount that can be deposited to the specified pay code balance. The amount is defined in the unit configured for the associated balance. See Configure Balances. |
Pay codes eligible for deposit | Determines which pay codes are deposited to the pay code balance specified in the Deposit pay code setting. Leave blank and the rule doesn’t look at pay codes when determining what time is deposited into the balance. |
Pay codes ineligible for deposit | Determines which pay codes aren’t deposited to the pay code balance specified in the Deposit pay code setting. |
Pay categories eligible for deposit | Determines which pay categories are deposited to the pay code balance specified in the Deposit pay code setting. |
Pay categories ineligible for deposit | Determines which pay codes aren’t deposited to the pay code balance specified in the Deposit pay code setting. |
Bank minutes multiplier |
To configure Dayforce so that employees earn their banked balance at a multiplied rate, enter a multiplier in this field. This field accepts both positive and negative values. For example, enter 2 in this field and employees earn two hours of banked time for each hour of overtime they work. Leave blank and employees don’t earn their banked balance at a multiplied rate. Note: If the Assign Pay Adjustment Rule is configured to bank overtime with a multiplier, Dayforce uses the value specified in that rule’s configuration, ignoring the multiplier specified in the Overtime Banking Rule. |
Maximum minutes per week | Enter the maximum number of minutes employees can bank per week. For example, to configure the rule so that employees can only bank one hour (60 minutes) of overtime per week, enter 60 in this field. |
Overtime Banking Rule Example
Example: Business Needs
Rather than paying employees at an increased rate for working overtime, Dayforce should bank these overtime hours as a benefit balance. Employees can bank up to 40 hours of overtime.
Example: Configuration
Note: The configuration described below applies only to the Overtime Banking Rule. For this rule to work, you must fully configure overtime balances. See Overtime Banking Configuration.
To configure the rule for this example:
- In the Deposit pay code drop-down list, select the pay code that you selected when you set up the balance. For example, if the balance uses the Deposit pay code, select this pay code in the Deposit pay code drop-down list.
- Enter 40 in the Max unit banked field.
- In the Pay categories eligible for deposit setting, select the pay categories that contribute to the overtime balance
Example: Results
An employee works one hour of overtime. This hour appears in their pay details as unpaid time with the Deposit pay code:
