Org Setup

The Org Setup feature in Dayforce is used to create and configure organization hierarchy and related organization levels and elements, such as the departments, job assignments, and jobs within the company. The Org Setup feature also contains subfeatures that are used to configure how other feature areas in Dayforce interact with one another.

See Org Setup Configuration.

Org Setup Subfeatures

Org Setup: Enables the Org Setup feature.

  • Authority Type: Enables the Authority Type subfeature of Org Setup.
  • Docket: Enables the Docket subfeature of Org Setup. Dockets are used in Dayforce to track logged time against some quantity of work produced. Typically, this quantity represents a number of pieces made in the docket, like the number of windshields installed on a car assembly line.
    • Import/Export: Assign this feature to enable the Import and Export buttons in Org Setup > Docket. When enabled, you can import and export CSV files containing docket records.
  • Job Assignment Qualifications: Assign this feature to enable the Job Assignment Qualifications subfeature in Org Setup. Users with access to this feature can specify the default links between job assignments and skills or certifications.
  • Job Assignment Sets: Enables Org Setup > Job Assignment Sets. Job Assignment sets are used to support minimum staffing. If employees work a job assignment included in a defined job assignment set, they are considered to be satisfying the minimum staffing requirement. See Minimum and Maximum Staffing.
  • Jobs and Job Assignments: Enables the Jobs and Job Assignments subfeature of Org Setup. Users with access to this subfeature can define jobs and job assignments in the organization. A job is a particular configuration of duties, responsibilities, and the skills, knowledge, ability and other characteristics that are required for the organization to meet its specific goals. Each job can be configured with one or more job assignments under it, which represent single instances of jobs that are assigned to specific locations and represent work that needs to be done. Job assignments are associated with departments, and determine the budget the associated employee’s hours and labor cost are deducted from.
    • Employment Indicator: Jobs and job assignments can be further organized by system- and user-configured employment indicators. Assign this feature to enable the Employment Indicator tab in Org Setup > Jobs and Job Assignments.
      • Export/Import: Enables the Import and Export buttons in the Employment Indicator tab of Org Setup > Jobs and Job Assignments.
    • Export/Import: Enables the Import and Export buttons in the Jobs and Job Assignments tab of Org Setup > Organization, so that you can import and export jobs and job assignments.
    • Job Families: Enables the Job Families tab of Org Setup > Jobs and Job Assignments.
    • Job Functions: Enables the Job Functions tab of Org Setup > Jobs and Job Assignments.
    • Pay Grades: Dayforce can be configured to support job and pay grades, which determine the pay range that employees should earn for working specific jobs. Dayforce uses job grades to determine what range of pay, between a minimum and maximum rate or salary, employees earn for working specific jobs. Assign this feature to enable the Pay Grades tab in Org Setup > Jobs and Job Assignments.
    • Dayforce can be configured to use two different pay grade systems. When the Pay Grade - Use Job Factor Point System checkbox is selected in System Admin > Client Properties, Dayforce shows several tabs job grade and pay grade information in the Pay Grades tab in Org Setup > Jobs and Job Assignments.
    • When the Pay Grade - Use Job Factor Point System checkbox is cleared, users configure rates and org differentials for each pay grade directly in the Pay Grades tab.
      • Import/Export: Enables the Import and Export buttons in the Pay Grades tab of Org Setup > Jobs and Job Assignments.
    • Position Term: Users can classify job assignments based on established time frames. Assign this feature to enable the Position Term tab in Org Setup > Jobs and Job Assignments.
      • Export/Import: Enables the Import and Export buttons in the Position Term tab of Org Setup > Jobs and Job Assignments.
    • Workers Comp: Payroll administrators and other authorized users can configure workers' compensation information for any of the organization’s listed jobs. Assign this feature to enable the Workers Comp tab in Org Setup > Jobs and Job Assignments. See Workers' Compensation Classifications.
  • Labor Metrics: Enables the Labor Metrics subfeature in Org Setup, which includes several subfeatures to properly configure projects’ related clients and products. See Create Project Metrics.
    • Labor Metric Codes: Enables the Labor Metric Codes tab in Org Setup > Labor Metrics. Users with access to this functionality can create customized labor metric codes for the purpose of labor tracking within an organization. These codes are associated with labor metric types, and appear in drop-down lists throughout Dayforce. See Configure Labor Metric Codes.
    • Labor Metric Types: Enables the Labor Metric Types tab in Org Setup > Labor Metrics. Users with access to this functionality can create groups of similar labor metric codes. These types are shown throughout Dayforce as drop-down lists from which you can select specific labor metric codes. See Configure Labor Metric Types.
    • Legacy Labor Metrics: Enables the Legacy Labor Metrics tab in Org Setup > Labor Metrics, which contains the following subtabs you can assign:
      • Product Group: Enables the Product Group subtab of the Legacy Labor Metrics tab. Assign this subfeature to the user roles responsible to track and manage projects as they relate to product groups.
      • Product Module: Enables the Product Module subtab of the Legacy Labor Metrics tab. Assign this subfeature to the user roles responsible to more intricately track and manage projects as they relate to product groups.
      • Project Client: Enables the Project Client subtab of the Legacy Labor Metrics tab. Assign this subfeature to the user roles responsible to track and maintain client projects.
      • Project Phase: Enables the Project Phase subtab of the Legacy Labor Metrics tab. Assign this subfeature to the user roles responsible to track and manage project progress.
      • Project Type: Enables the Project Type subtab of the Legacy Labor Metrics tab. Assign this subfeature to the user roles responsible to classify the organization’s projects.
  • Locations: Enables the Locations subfeature in Org Setup. Users with access to this feature can configure location properties and values for their organization, which can be used in Task Management to cater your organization’s tasks to certain attributes or physical properties in your location.
    • Location Daily Properties: Enables the Location Daily Properties and Location Daily Property Values tabs in Org Setup > Locations.
    • Location daily properties are similar to location properties in that they’re measurable properties of locations within an organization that you can create for specific locations and use with task management and labor planning. They’re helpful in situations where activity demand times vary from location to location.
    • Location Properties: Enables the Location Properties tab in Org Setup > Locations. In this tab, Dayforce can record measurable properties of locations within the organization for use with task management and labor planning. For example, the square footage of each location, the number of cash registers in each store, or the amount of stations on an assembly line can all be saved as location properties.
    • Location Types: Enables the Location Types tab in Org Setup > Locations, where users can define location types. Location types are physical areas within an organization's locations which employees can be scheduled to, such as stations on an assembly line, desks, or booths.
  • Org Payroll Setup: Adds the Org Payroll Setup feature and subfeatures in Org Setup. Users with access to this feature can configure org payroll units, legal entities, employee work location overrides, legal entity overrides, location addresses, and mobile org addresses.
    • Employee Work Location Overrides: Adds the Employee Work Location Overrides tab to the Org Payroll Setup feature. This tab is used to add the addresses that can be assigned to employees as a work location override in the Work > Work Assignments screen in People. Because employees need to be taxed based on the location where they physically work, the work location override address must be configured so they can be assigned to employees.
      • Legal Entity Overrides: Adds the Allow Legal Entity Override column to the Employee Work Location Overrides tab. Here you can select the checkbox to allow the employee work location override to override the legal entity.
    • Legal Entity: Assign this feature to add the Legal Entity tab to the Org Payroll Setup subfeature.
    • Note: If your culture is set to English (UK), the Legal Entity feature and its tab are renamed Organization.
    • Org payroll setup is used by the Payroll feature and functionality in Dayforce. A legal entity is an organization that federal tax authorities recognize. A single organization can have one or more legal entities. Legal entities are assigned by country, so organizations that operate and pay employees in more than one country need a different legal entity configured for each country. Legal entities are used to ensure that the appropriate taxes are applied to employee pay. Every physical location (organizational units configured with Site selected in the Org Level drop-down list in Org Setup > Organization) must be assigned to a legal entity. See Organization Hierarchy.
      • Add Manual Taxes: (US only) Adds the Add New Taxes button to the Tax Authorities subtab, which allows administrators to manually add taxes to the employee. See Manually Add Taxes.
      • Legal Entity Employment Insurance: Adds the Employment Insurance tab to Org Payroll Setup > Legal Entity, which is used to record the employment insurance factor for Canadian legal entities. The employment insurance factor is the amount of employment insurance the employer pays each pay period. Employees themselves contribute a certain amount each pay period to cover employment insurance premiums; most employers also pay employment insurance premiums at a multiple, generally 1.4 times, of an employee's premium.
      • Legal Entity Fiscal Calendar: Adds the Fiscal Calendar tab to Org Payroll Setup > Legal Entity.
      • Legal Entity Property Bag: (US only) Adds the Quarterly / Annual Reporting Parameters tab to Org Payroll Setup > Legal Entity. The Quarterly/Annual Reporting Parameters tab is used to configure parameters used in US quarterly tax reporting.
      • Legal Entity Tax Remittance: Adds the Tax Authorities tab to Org Payroll Setup > Legal Entity, which is used to review the taxes applied to a legal entity's employees, define which taxes the legal entity is exempt for, and other tax parameters.
      • Multiple Worksite Reporting: Adds the Multiple Worksite Reporting tab to Org Payroll Setup > Legal Entity, which is used to set up and assign worksites to legal entities. If a legal entity has multiple locations that are covered under a single Unemployment Insurance (UI) account, some states require that the legal entity defines and assigns worksite numbers to all their locations, to be used for reporting purposes.
      • New Hire Reporting: (US only) Enables the New Hire Reporting tab in Org Payroll Setup > Legal Entity. See Overview of New Hire Reporting.
      • Quarterly/Annual Reporting Parameters: Enables the Quarterly / Annual Reporting Parameters tab, which us used to configure the parameters used in US quarterly tax reporting. If any parameters are configured in this tab, the parameter values are passed to Dayforce Tax Service at the end of the quarter.
      • Workers Comp: Enables the Workers Comp tab in Org Payroll Setup > Legal Entity, which is used to configure Dayforce to properly process workers compensation premiums. Workers' comp is a form of insurance that provides wages (either supplemental or replacement) and medical benefits to employees who are injured on the job.
    • Location Addresses: Enables the Location Addresses feature in Org Setup > Org Payroll Setup.
    • Mobile Org Addresses: Enables the Mobile Org Addresses tab in Org Setup > Organization. This feature allows users to define mobile org locations if an employer has multiple addresses and taxation requirements for a single location. For example, a fishing boat might be located in Alaska for half of a pay period, and in California the other half.
  • Organization: Enables the Organization subfeature. Users with access to this subfeature can configure org units within the organization. In the Organization subfeature, users can define the groups and subgroups that make up the organizational hierarchy. The top of the organization and the organizational groups and subgroups that fall under it, often referred to as org units, that make up your organization, such as districts and regions, must be configured so that the other organizational elements can be assigned to the appropriate groups in the organization. See Configure Organizational Groups and Subgroups.
    • Departments: Enables the Departments tab in Org Setup > Organization.
      • Export / Import: Enables the Import and Export buttons in the Position Term tab of Org Setup > Jobs and Job Assignments.
    • Levels: Enables the Levels tab in Org Setup > Organization, where users can define a location’s organizational level for optimized classification.
    • Organization: Enables the Organization tab in Org Setup > Organization.
      • Location Property Values: Enables values for various location properties and attributes being tracked in Dayforce.
      • This role feature also assigns access to the Closures subtab, which appears when you select a site-level org unit in the organizational hierarchy in the Organization tab.
      • Location Type Values: Enables the Location Type field in the Location tab of a selected location in Org Setup > Organization. This allows users to assign location types to specific locations. Location types are physical areas within an organization’s locations, which employees can be scheduled to, such as stations on an assembly line, desks, or booths.
      • This role feature also assigns access to the Closures subtab, which appears when you select a site-level org unit in the organizational hierarchy in the Organization tab.
      • Mobile Org Taxation Available: Enables the Is Mobile Org field in the General tab in Org Setup > Organization.
      • Taxation Address Available: Enables the Taxation Address field in the Address tab of sites or departments in the Organization tab of Org Setup > Organization. See Single Sites with Multiple Legal Entities.
  • Zones Configuration: Enables the Zones Configuration subfeature in Org Setup. Users with access to this feature can configure zones for their organization, which are used to organize a location for labor planning, scheduling, and security access.
    • MDSE Departments: Enables the MDSE Departments tab in Org Setup > Zones Configuration. Merchandising departments are an optional part of defining your organization, which can be used to track sales by assigning products to the appropriate department. Products in stores are often organized by departments. For example, an electronics store might have a computer department and a home theater department. When customer service puts through the sale of a television, the sale is linked in the Point-of-Sales system with the home theater department. Merchandising departments are used in Dayforce to link this POS data with the corresponding zone.
    • Zones: Enables the Zones tab in Org Setup > Zones Configuration. Zones are used to organize a location for labor planning, scheduling, and security access. They are a location area that uses part of the labor budget and has employees scheduled to work in it. Zones and departments can be configured with a one-to-one ratio, or a single zone can contain multiple departments. See Create Zones.
    • Zone MDSE Department: Enables the Zone MDSE Department tab in Org Setup > Zones Configuration. Merchandising departments track performance, most commonly sales. When they are configured, they can be assigned to the zones that generate the performance or sales, to track the relationship between them. Users with access to this feature can link merchandising departments to zones.
    • Zone Packages: Enables the Zone Packages tab in Org Setup > Organization. Zone packages are collections of departments and zones that are used to quickly assign zones and departments to new locations created in Dayforce. Zone packages link departments to zones in the locations they’re assigned to. A zone package can be company wide, specific to a region, a district, or a single location.
