When you configure a labor deployment policy, it’s important to select an appropriate rule order. A rule’s ordering refers to its position in the policy. In general, Dayforce runs rules in order from top to bottom in the policy. This order is less important for labor constraints, such as an instance of the Base Hours Rule, because Dayforce runs them after labor spread rules.
However, if a policy has multiple labor spread rules, they might allocate hours from the same labor pool, distributing different amounts of hours depending on the order in which they’re run.
For example, one rule might allocate a fixed number of hours from a labor pool and the next rule might allocate 100% of the remaining hours in the pool. If the rules were run in reverse order then the second rule would allocate all of the hours and there would be no hours left in the pool to allocate with the fixed hours rule.
To order the rules in a policy:
- Go to Plan Setup > Labor Deployment and select a labor deployment policy. A slide-out panel opens.
- In the Rules and Qualifiers section, select a rule.
- Click the move up or move down arrow icons to change the rule’s ordering.
- Click Save.
Note: Labor driver rules always run before all other rules to ensure that any labor driver derived curves are available for use in the Labor Spread Rule.
