After you've created the merchandising departments your organization uses to track its location's performance (commonly sales), you need to link the merchandising departments to the appropriate zones. Typically, this is the zone that earns the merchandising department's sales. For example, say you've defined several merchandising departments that divide music sales by genre:
- Rock - CD
- Rap HipHop - CD
- Country, Blues - CD
- International - CD
- Alternative - CD
These merchandising departments correspond to codes in the store's POS system.
Because stores plan their labor and schedule employees based, in part, on their CD sales in general and not on the sale of one particular genre, all of these merchandising departments are linked to one zone. This way, the sales data from any CD sale drives the labor budget for the CD zone, which in turn gives managers more labor hours to spend in the CD zone when creating schedules.
You can create as many merchandising departments to zone links as you need in Org Setup, although typically you wouldn’t link one merchandising department to more than one zone. This would result in the sales from that department being counted twice by Dayforce. Any number of merchandising departments can link to a single zone, though.
Additionally, the same zone in different zone packages can be linked to different merchandising departments. The links are specific to each zone package. Continuing the example above, in the East Region zone package, the CD zone contains all of the CD merchandising departments. However, in the Central Region zone package, the International - CD merchandising department isn’t linked to the CD zone because stores in that region don’t carry any products from the International - CD merchandising department.
To link merchandising departments to zones:
- Go to Org Setup > Zones Configuration and click the Zone MDSE Department tab.
- In the left side panel, select the zone package and zone you want to link to a merchandising department.
- The application shows zone packages and zones hierarchically. The top-level items in the list are zone packages. Click a zone package to expand the list, and Dayforce shows the zones linked to the zone package.
- Select the Include checkboxes next to the merchandising departments that you want to link to the selected zone.
- Click Save.
