General Health Option Settings

After defining the health plan details, in the General tab of a health option in Benefits Setup > Plans and Options, you can configure the option. You can add as many options as necessary and use qualifiers to determine which employees are eligible for each option. If multiple options are defined for a single plan, you must configure eligibility qualifiers for each option.

General tab fields for configuring health options
Field Description

Name

The display name of the option.

Description

The description of the option. Dayforce doesn't show the description to employees during enrollment.

Reference Code

The ID used in import files to import employee benefits. Cross-reference codes are used to import and export data to and from Dayforce and other applications.

Taxability

The taxability of the option. This value is used for reporting purposes only. Dayforce applies taxation rules to options based on the tax settings of the earning or deduction to which the option is mapped. The options are:

  • None
  • Pre-Tax
  • After-Tax

Auto Enroll

Determines whether employees must actively elect to participate in the option. When the checkbox is selected, employees who qualify are automatically enrolled in the option by the Benefits Auto Enrollment Option Process background job or the benefits eligibility recalculation that runs whenever a workflow includes the Benefits Enrollment node. This occurs regardless of whether employees access Benefits and elect to enroll in the option themselves.

Dayforce automatically enrolls employees in the option, however, employees can still change their selection during enrollment for health options unless you've configured enrollment restrictions to prevent this action.

If you set this field for a health plan option, the following rules apply:

  • Each health plan can have only one auto-enroll option.
  • Plans can't have managed care provider information. Configure a managed care provider as not required or optional.
  • Options can't have participants. If participants are defined for the option, the minimum number of participants can't be greater than one. Usually, options that need participants don't have the Auto Enroll field enabled.

You can use this field to ensure that employees enroll in certain types of options. For example, this might be used for an option that offers limited employer-paid coverage or a waive option.

By default, auto-enrolled health options aren't selected when employees access an enrollment, but you can configure them to be during enrollment setup. For information on best practices for auto-enrolled health options in enrollment setup, see Best Practices: Auto Enroll Health Options .

Waived Option

Dayforce tracks when employees waive an offer of coverage. In addition, select the checkbox if you don't want Dayforce to show a waive option to employees with enrollment restrictions. For more information on configuring waive options, see Waive Options. For more information on enrollment restrictions, see Enrollment Restriction Definitions.

No Cost

Dayforce doesn't apply rates for the option. Select the checkbox if the option has no associated cost.

Note: If you have already defined rates for the option, and then select the No Cost checkbox, Dayforce keeps the rate table, but doesn't apply the rates or any rate eligibility qualifiers to the option, unless the checkbox is cleared again.

Suppress Costs

Dayforce doesn't show employee costs to the employee in Benefits during enrollment, in Benefits > History, and in Benefits > Current Elections. For the Mobile and Web enrollment types, when you select this checkbox, Dayforce doesn't show:

  • The employee costs in any of the enrollment screens.
  • The employer costs in the Review and Next Steps screens.

This checkbox doesn't show when you select the Subject to Flex Credit Benefit checkbox for health plans with a country selection of Canada.

Note: Don't enable this field if you plan to include this option in a decision support configuration. Dayforce uses employee costs to help deliver decision support results during enrollment. You can configure decision support information for health plans offered only in the United States. See Add Benefits Decision Support.

PPACA Qualified

Employees not currently qualified as a full-time employee under PPACA aren't eligible for the option. If the option is available only to full-time employees under the Affordable Care Act (ACA or PPACA), select the PPACA Qualified checkbox. This shouldn't be used with a PPACA Status Eligibility Qualifier. See PPACA Setup.

Note: Dayforce shows this field for plans based only in the United States.

PPACA Waived Option

If you want Dayforce to track when employees waive an offer of coverage for the PPACA Year End by selecting a waive option, select the PPACA Waived Option checkbox. If employees select this option, the Autofill task in PPACA > Year End Process populates code1A for waive election enrollees. If you selected Subject To ACA Reporting at the plan level, you can't select this option.

Note: Employees must have an election for the PPACA Waived Option. The absence of a PPACA election isn't considered a waive. Dayforce shows this field for plans based only in the United States.
