Display Piece and Rate Counts on Earning Statements

As a payroll administrator, you can configure Dayforce to generate earning statements to display a quantity of work performed (piece units), as well as an associated rate of pay per piece (piece rate). This makes it easier for employees who are paid by piece work to see how many pieces they are being paid for (pieces use the # indicator), and at what rate, as illustrated in the following screenshot:

In the Special Information section of the earning statement, the piece work details appear in two lines:

  • The first line is the name of the earning definition (set in the Earnings tab of Payroll Setup > Earnings and Deductions) with a corresponding number of pieces done.
  • The second line, beginning with an asterisk, displays the earning definition code and the rate.

Important: Canadian back office does not support use of the # indicator, but Canadian ESS earning statements do display the indicator.

Before You Begin: You must ensure the organization is correctly configured to use piece rates. See Piece Rates.

To display piece count rates on employee earning statements:

  1. Go to Pay Setup > Pay Group and select a pay group.
  2. Click the Payroll Properties tab.
  3. In the Net Pay Setup section, select the Display docket piece quantity on Earning Statement checkbox.
  4. Click Save, and then click Refresh.

To set up how piece rate information is displayed in the earning statement:

  2. In the Options sub-tab, select one or more of these settings:
    • Allow Piece Quantity without Pay (displays only piece quantity)

    • Adjust Docket Rate during Payroll Calc
  3. For more details about these settings, see Options Sub-Tab.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Repeat steps 1 to 3 for any other earnings that track piece units.
