Customize Notification Messages

In the Notifications tab in the Messages section, you customize a notification’s text by expanding a notification row and entering a message in the text editor of the Notification Message tab:

Notification Message tab showing a text field with options and a list containing tokens.

For more information on formatting text, see Appendix: Rich Text Controls.

Before You Begin: Customized vacation bidding notifications aren’t available for text messages because text notifications are limited to 140 characters. If you’ve configured employees to receive text notifications and you’ve configured customized notification text, employees will receive the customized notifications only in Message Center and by email, if configured.

You can also insert tokens for values like employee name, vacation bidding group name, and submission round dates. With this configuration, in the message text, Dayforce replaces these tokens with the employee’s actual name (as configured in Dayforce), the vacation bidding group associated with the session, and the actual submission round dates. To insert a token, click the area of the text editor where you want to place the token. Next, click the Token drop-down list and select the appropriate token. Dayforce shows the token that you selected in the drop-down list and the Insert button becomes available:

Cursor hovering over the Insert button, with the Period Round Start Date token selected.

Click Insert and Dayforce adds the token to the area of the text editor that you selected with the cursor:

Text editor with the Period Round Start Date token added.

Tokens use strict formatting rules, like {{PERIOD_END_DATE}}. After you add a token, you can cut it or copy and paste it anywhere in the text editor if you don’t change any part of the token or brackets. For example, deleting the underscore between PERIOD and END in the {{PERIOD_END_DATE}} token or removing brackets results in a misconfiguration. When this happens, Dayforce is unable to populate the notification with the last date of the eligible period that employees can bid on for vacation.

For a list of all of the tokens available in the Notifications tab of Vacation Bidding Setup, see Vacation Bidding Notification Tokens.
