Create Zones

To create zones:

  1. Go to Org Setup > Zones Configuration and click the Zones tab.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Enter a name and, optionally, a description of the zone.
  4. In the Organization field, specify where the zone can be assigned in your organization by selecting the checkbox next to the appropriate locations in the organizational tree.
  5. In the Efficiency Score Method drop-down list, select the option you want to use for calculating the zone’s efficiency score. A zone's efficiency score is a percentage score that reflects how close its schedule matches the labor demand. A zone’s efficiency score is a percentage score that reflects how close its schedule matches the labor demand. You can select one of the following options:
    • DayOnly: Dayforce compares the number of employees scheduled to the labor demanded for the day.
    • QuarterHourOnly: Dayforce compares the number of employees scheduled to the labor demand at each quarter hour. Any time the zone is understaffed or overstaffed is subtracted from this score.
    • BothServiceInsideHOO: Dayforce uses both quarter hour and daily coverage scores inside the location's hours of operation. However, outside the hours of operation, Dayforce uses the daily efficiency score.
    • BothServiceOutsideHOODayforce uses both quarter hour and daily coverage scores. The quarter hour method is used for service activities and the daily method for non-service activities.
  6. In the Scheduling Method drop-down list, select how the Dayforce autofill feature creates schedules for the zone:
    • Deployment TemplateDayforce follows a template that breaks up the zone's daily labor demand into multiple curves, one for each different activity specified.
    • Manual or NoneDayforce doesn't autofill the zone’s schedule. If autofill is run for the location, Dayforce leaves the schedules of any zones configured with this option blank so that a manager can create the schedule for the zone manually.
    • Note: Autofill doesn’t distinguish between selecting Manual or None. In both cases, it skips the zone and doesn’t schedule shifts to it.
    • Optimization: Dayforce doesn't consider activities when creating a schedule. It considers one labor demand curve and attempts to fill the schedule so that the demand is met at every point in the curve.
  7. In the Priority Order field, enter the relative order in which the zone is staffed when autofill runs.
  8. In the Max Staffing Level field, enter the maximum demand level, in number of employees, the zone can reach at any time. When Dayforce distributes labor to the zone, it never exceeds this level at any time. For example, if there are five cash registers, set the value for the zone to 5, because the demand for cashiers shouldn't exceed the number of available registers.
  9. In the Sort Index field, enter a number that represents the sort order of this zone relative to other zones. This number is used to sort zones on schedules. For example, to configure a zone so that it is always shown first when schedules are sorted in ascending order by zone, enter 1. Zones without a Sort Index are shown last when sorted in ascending order, and first in descending order.
  10. Note: If none of the zones are assigned a Sort Index, Dayforce doesn’t sort schedules by zone. Instead, it either sorts by the next sort option (for example, if zone was the primary sort option, it would sort by the secondary one instead), or sorts by employee name in cases where zone was the tertiary sort option.
  11. (Optional) Enter a cross-reference code in the Reference Code field. This code must be unique and must not contain special characters.
  12. Click Save.

Repeat these steps to create the different zones in your locations. You assign them to locations using zone packages, which are created after you configure all of your zones. See Create Zone Packages.
