Configure the Workers Comp Rule

A payroll policy that includes the Workers Comp rule is assigned to any employee who pays workers' compensation premiums, or has an employer who pays on their behalf. The Workers Comp rule is configured to include the deductions that track workers' compensation payments or premiums.

Before You Begin: Make sure that the appropriate payroll policies are already configured in Dayforce. See Payroll Policies.

To configure the Workers Comp rule:

  1. Go to Payroll Setup > Payroll Policies and expand a payroll policy.
  2. Click the add icon () and select Rule.
  3. Enter a name and, optionally, a description for the rule.
  4. Enter a start date for the rule in the Effective From field. Dayforce only applies active rules during the effective date range.
  5. Verify that the Active checkbox is selected.
  6. In the Type drop-down list, select Workers Comp.
  7. Select Respect Work Location Override Province for Employees to use an override work location to calculate the workers' compensation deduction. The override work location is set up in the employee record, and is different from the one associated with the employee's job assignment.
  8. In the Eligible Employee Deduction drop-down list, select the deduction that tracks the workers' compensation premiums that the employees pay.
  9. In the Eligible Employer Deduction drop-down list, select the deduction that tracks the workers' compensation payments the employer pays on behalf of employees.
  10. Note: The Eligible Employee Deduction and Eligible Employer Deduction settings are available only to US customers. Dayforce shows only deductions that were configured as Workers Comp deductions in the drop-down lists.
For Canadian customers, Dayforce automatically uses the system-configured employer workers' compensation deduction definition.
  11. Click Save.

Pay policies are assigned to an employee in their employee record in the Employment > Employment Settings in People.
