Configure the Work Patterns Rule

To configure the Work Patterns Rule:

  1. Go to Schedule SetupSchedule Rule Policy.
  2. Select a schedule rule policy. Dayforce shows the policy’s details in the slide-out panel.
  3. In the Rule Set Configuration section, select a ruleset.
  4. Click the add icon () and select Rule.
  5. In the Type drop-down list, select Work Patterns Rule.
  6. Enter a name and, optionally, a description for the rule.
  7. In the Severity drop-down list, specify the severity level Dayforce assigns shifts that violate this rule. The following options are available:
    • Critical: Dayforce marks the shift with a problem icon () and shows a critical alert in the Problems panel. You can’t save the schedule until you correct this problem.
    • Error: Dayforce marks the shift with a problem icon () and shows an error alert in the Problems panel. You’re alerted that the problem should be fixed, but you can still save the schedule without correcting it.
    • Informational: Dayforce marks the shift with an informational icon () and shows an informational alert in the Problems panel. You’re informed of the availability violation, but no action is required or expected.
    • Warning: Dayforce marks the shift with a warning icon () and shows a warning alert in the Problems panel. You’re alerted about the availability violation, but you can still save the schedule without correcting it.
  8. In the Include Work Pattern Shift Types selection list, specify which shift types the rule validates.
  9. To specify which shift properties the rule validates, do any of the following:
    • To validate unpaid meals and breaks, select the Include Unpaid Meal Breaks checkbox.
    • To validate that the job assignment assigned to shifts match the one specified in the employee's work pattern, select the Validate Job Assignment checkbox.
    • To validate that the location types assigned to shifts match the ones specified in the employee's work pattern, select the Validate Org Location Type checkbox.
    • To validate that the org units assigned to shifts match the ones specified in the employee's work pattern, select the Validate Org Unit checkbox.
  10. Click Save.

Example: Configuration

An organization requires Dayforce to show a warning if an employee is scheduled outside their work pattern for shifts of any type. The organization also requires Dayforce to show a warning if a shift's unpaid meals and breaks, labor metrics, location type, or org unit don't match the ones specified in the employee's work pattern.

To configure the rule to meet these requirements:

  1. In the Severity drop-down list, select Warning.
  2. In the Include Work Pattern Shift Types selection list, select all shift types.
  3. Select the Include Unpaid Meal Breaks, Validate Job Assignment, Validate Org Location Type, and Validate Org Unit checkboxes.
