Configure Visa Exemption Taxation for US Employees

Role feature access: Application Container > People > Employee Profile > Payroll > Tax Definitions > United States > Special Taxation

The following table describes the parameters if the Special Taxation Type option selected is Visa Taxation Exemption in the Special Taxation section:

Parameters for Visa Taxation Exemptions
Parameter Description
Visa Taxation Exemption Country Country of the employee. All countries except the United States of America.
Alien Residential Status

The two options available affect the options available in the Visa Type Taxability field: 

  • Non-Resident Alien
  • Resident Alien
Visa Type Taxability

If the Alien Resident Status is Non-Resident Alien, the options are

F-1 Visa (Taxability V01) through F-1 Visa (Taxability V12)

J-1 Visa (Taxability V01) through J-1 Visa (Taxability V12)

If the Alien Resident Status is Resident Alien, the options are

F-1 Visa (Taxability V13) through J-1 Visa (Taxability V16)

J-1 Visa (Taxability V13) through J-1 Visa (Taxability V16)

 

FIT Federal Income Tax. Determined by the Visa Type Taxability.
SS/Med Social security and Medicare. Determined by the Visa Type Taxability.
FUTA/DRT Federal Unemployment Tax and Data Retrieval Tool. Determined by the Visa Type Taxability.
SUI State Unemployment Insurance. Determined by the Visa Type Taxability.
Non Resident Alien Adj. Adjustment determined by the Visa Type Taxability.

Configure visa exemption taxation for a US employee

To configure visa exemption taxation for US employees:

  1. Go to People, open the employee profile, and click Payroll > Tax Definitions.
  2. Locate the Special Taxation section and click Add.
  3. In the Special Taxation Type drop-down list, click Visa Taxation Exemption.
  4. Enter a start date and, if necessary, an end date.
  5. In the Parameters section, configure the options as necessary.
  6. Click Save.
