It's important to configure user access to dashboards, views, and data sources correctly so that users can see the data they need without being exposed to sensitive data. There are two places where you need to configure access to Dashboards: in the Dashboards Setup subfeature, and in System Admin > Roles.
In Dashboards Setup, there are two ways to configure access to Dashboards:
- Access to dashboard groups: You can sort dashboards into groups and then assign access to each group as required.
- Access to data sources: You can specify access to data sources for each role. If a dashboard contains views from multiple data sources, the user sees only the views that are associated with the data sources that they have access to.
In System Admin > Roles, you need to grant access to the Dashboards role features and access authorizations. Most users who will be viewing dashboards only need to have Can Read permissions for the Dashboards access authorizations. Only dashboard authors need full permissions, and in some cases a system administrator.
