When you set up separate excess and deficit carryover balances, the excess pay code increments the excess balance, and the deficit pay code increments the deficit balance. Dayforce considers these two balances together to determine the number of hours the employee carries over between periods.
Important: If you configure two balances, ensure that you configure the other steps (for example, pay codes or entitlements) correctly as well. Procedures that differ between the one and two balance methods are noted for each step.
To configure two carryover balances:
- Go to Pay Setup > Balances.
- In the Balances tab, click Add.
- Enter a name and, optionally, a description for the balance.
- In the Units drop-down list, select Hours.
- In the Pay Adjustments section, select the deficit and excess pay codes that you created. See Configure Pay Codes for Work Contracts.
- Click Save.
