This section describes how to define and specify the default labor metrics that Dayforce applies to employees’ worked time, such as specifying what project or docket their worked time should be charged against, by default.
Employee default labor can be defined for employees in any of the following ways:
- In the People feature for specific employees: Users can assign default labor to any employee they can access. An employee’s default labor is defined in the Work > Default Labor screen in People. Specify what job assignment, project, docket, or pay code the employee’s worked time is charged against, by default, by selecting appropriate values from the corresponding drop-down lists. If the employee’s time entry policy includes user-defined labor metric codes, you can click the drop-down arrow to show an additional section below the list where you can define default codes for each labor metric:
-
- Select values in the Labor Metrics Type and Labor Metrics Code drop-down lists to specify the employee’s labor metrics.
- Using the Edit Wizard in the People List screen of People: Users can assign the same default labor to several qualifying employees at once using the Mass Assignment Wizard by selecting appropriate values in the Default Labor drop-down lists.
- Using Employee Data Mapping Rules: Administrators can define employee data mapping rules with any of the default labor metrics specified in the Mappings section of HR Admin > Employee Data Mapping Rules, so that eligible employees are assigned the corresponding default labor. Data mapping rules are applied both when employees are imported and when employee records are modified in the People feature.
- Note: To define default job assignments with employee data mapping rules, specify both a default department and default job.
- Through the HR Import: Administrators can specify employee default labor in the HR Import file.
Dayforce shows the employee’s default labor metrics in Timesheets and the Employee Timesheet. As users edit or record worked shifts, any default labor selections are made, by default, from the appropriate drop-down list. Worked time is charged against the docket, as visible when you view pay details in the Pay panel:
An employee’s default labor is applied by default and can be overridden in several cases:
- By the details of scheduled shifts: Dayforce respects any details specified by a scheduled shift that an employee works. For example, the worked time is charged against the job assignment the employee was scheduled to work, even if this is different from the employee’s default labor job assignment. It also respects any pay code assigned to the scheduled shift. For example, if the employee was scheduled to a training shift by selecting the ‘Train’ pay code for the shift, when the employee works the shift, the Train pay code is applied to the worked time, even if this is different from the employee’s default labor pay code.
- By transfers: Any transfers, either done by the employee during the shift at a clock, or transfer recorded on their time and attendance records through a timesheet, override the employee’s default labor. For example, an employee’s default labor specifies that their hours are recorded against the ‘Q3 Inventory’ project, but during their shift the employee recorded a project transfer at 1:00 PM. In this case, the employee’s worked time from 1:00 PM to the end of the shift are charged against the project specified in the transfer and not their default labor.
- By shift rotation allocations: When employees work scheduled shifts that are based on shift rotations, Dayforce respects any labor metrics specified in the rotation’s definition. Shift rotations can be assigned sets of labor metrics that dictate what job assignment, project, docket, or pay code employees are scheduled to work when their schedules are created from the shift rotation.
- See Configure Labor Metrics for Shift Rotations.
- If employees work schedules that are created from shift rotations assigned labor metrics, these labor metrics override employee’s default labor.
