Configure Decrement Cascades in Attendance Policies

You can configure decrement cascades so that Dayforce can decrement points from multiple attendance incident types, until either the full decrement is applied, or the balances for all of the selected incident types are zero. When the balance of the first incident type is used up, Dayforce can continue to decrement points from other specified incident types, until all of those balances are zero, or the full decrement is applied.

For example, an employee is allotted three late incidents, five absences, and ten vacation days. When an employee is late three times, the employee can use their absent balance first, and then if the absent balance runs out, they can use their vacation balance.

To configure decrement cascades:

  1. Go to Pay Setup > Attendance. Dayforce displays the Attendance Policy tab, by default.
  2. Select the attendance policy that you want to set up a decrement cascade for.
  3. Click the Decrement Cascade sub-tab, then click Add.
  4. In the Incident Type drop-down list, select the initial incident type to decrement from (for example, Late).
  5. In the Next Incident Type drop-down list, select the next incident type (for example, Absent). If the balance of the incident type selected in the Incident Type drop-down list is zero, Dayforce decrements from the next incident type.
  6. In the Sequence field, enter a sequence number to determine which incident type will be deducted when the balance of the first incident type is zero. The late balance cascades to the absent balance, and if the absent balance runs out, then it cascades to the vacation balance. Therefore, the late to absent cascade has a Sequence value of 0.
  7. To add the next cascade, click Add.
  8. In the Incident Type drop-down list, select the initial incident type again (following the example above, select Late).
  9. In the Next Incident Type drop-down list, select Vacation.
  10. In the Sequence field, enter 1. In this example, if the absent balance runs out, the late balance cascades to the vacation balance. Therefore, the late to vacation cascade has a sequence value of 1.
  11. Click Save.

Your cascades should appear as follows:
