Configure Base Rate Policies

Each base rate set must have its own base rate policy that specifies how employees progress through the levels for that set. These base rate policies are then assigned to employees in their employee record, which is how Dayforce determines which base rate set applies to which employees.

Every base rate policy must have an instance of the Update Base Rate Rule. In the rule, you specify the units for step values (for example, years of service or worked hours), and whether Dayforce pays out a bonus in cases where the rate the employee is entitled to exceeds the maximum defined for their pay grade. When the unit for step values is worked hours, you can also use the rule to specify which pay details Dayforce includes in these calculations.

You can also configure an instance of the Adjust Base Rate Rule, which automatically applies the current effective rate in cases where a new rate takes effect at the same level.

To configure a base rate policy:

  1. Go to Pay Setup > Base Rate Set.
  2. In the Base Rate Policy tab, click Add. A slide-out panel opens.
  3. Enter a name and, optionally, a description of the policy.
  4. In the Organization field, select the locations that the policy applies to.
  5. (Optional) In the Reference Code field, enter a cross-reference code. This code must be unique and must not contain special characters.
  6. (Optional) In the Respect Business Day Alignment As Of field, enter the date that you want Dayforce to start respecting your organization's business day alignment when it applies base rate progressions. The date that you select should be after the Effective From date in the policy rules. If you select a day that's before this date, Dayforce ignores the date that you entered in the Respect Business Day Alignment As Of field until the Effective From date.
  7. Click Save.
