Configure Assignment Rules

Assignment rules apply assignment orders to a group of eligible employees. Each rule has its own definition of eligible employees, which can be based on any of the following:

  • Pay type (either salaried or hourly).
  • Pay class (part-time, full-time, or students).
  • Additional conditions:
    • Employees who have been scheduled more than their weekly maximum.
    • Employees who have been scheduled more than their weekly minimum.
    • Employees who need to be scheduled more to reach their weekly maximum.
    • Employees who need to be scheduled more to reach their weekly minimum.

A single rule can have several groups of eligible employees, each with their own sort order. Therefore, the rule order helps determine the employees that Dayforce schedules first. When you configure assignment rules, you define which employees are eligible and in what order they’re scheduled. Then, for each group of eligible employees, you select an assignment order, which determines how Dayforce schedules a group’s employees.

To configure assignment rules:

  1. Go to Schedule Setup > Assignment Policy and click the Assignment Rules tab.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Enter a name and, optionally, a description of the rule.
  4. In the employee eligibility section, click Add.
  5. (Optional) Select the eligible pay types. You configure pay types in HR Admin > Pay Type.
  6. (Optional) Select the eligible pay classes. You configure pay classes in HR Admin > Pay Class.
  7. (Optional) In the Condition drop-down list, select the desired statement.
  8. In the Order drop-down list, select in what order Dayforce schedules eligible employees.
  9. Repeat steps 5 through 8 to define each group of eligible employees. You can create enough eligible groups so that every employee falls into a group, and then order the groups so that employees are scheduled in the proper order. For example, some schedule assignment rules apply only to full-time employees.
  10. Click Save.
