Canadian Employment Insurance Rate Rule

The Canadian Employment Insurance Rate Rule applies an Employment Insurance (EI) rate to employees' pay. For example, if a legal entity has more than one EI rate group, configure a payroll policy rule for each group with specific employee qualifiers for employees in those groups.

Eligible rate group options are configured for Canadian legal entities in Org Setup > Org Payroll Setup > Legal Entity by selecting a legal entity, and then clicking the Employment Insurance tab. Your organization must have a letter from Service Canada outlining employee eligibility for reduced EI rates before adding new rate groups. If you assign an employee to a payroll policy that includes one of the eligible rate groups, Dayforce doesn't acknowledge them in any further rate groups for which they might also qualify.

This rule allows payroll administrators to assign an alternate BN (business number) or RP (payroll) number to employees using a specific custom check template. This facilitates special EI- and CPP-exempt payments to qualifying employees, such as employees who qualify for Supplemental Unemployment Benefits (SUB) programs.
