The Base Hours Rule defines base coverage constraints. You can define the number of people or location properties that a zone needs scheduled during specific times, so that during labor deployment Dayforce adjusts how labor is spread, ensuring to cover the constraint. Location properties are measurable properties of locations within the organization that you can set up for specific locations and use with task management and labor planning. See Configure Location Properties.
For example, if you define the Base Hours Rule stipulating that the Fitting Room zone needs at least one employee scheduled between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Dayforce adjusts how it deploys the zone’s labor so that the labor curve requires at least one employee during those eight hours.
The constraints that the Base Hours Rule creates represent a minimum and have no effect to the labor curve that Dayforce generates during labor deployment if the curve already matches the requirement.
Continuing the example, if the Fitting Room’s labor was going to be spread such that varying levels of staff were scheduled between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, but never less than one employee was scheduled, the Base Hours Rule doesn’t impact this curve as it has been satisfied.
Alternatively, you could use the Base Hours Rule to specify how many location properties are required for coverage (for example, how many cash registers, or tills, are required rather than the number of employees).
Setting | Description |
---|---|
Max # of People Needed | The maximum number of people who should be scheduled to work the specified activity at each interval during the time period specified by the rule’s settings. For example, you could use this functionality to ensure that there is always one manager assigned the ‘manager’ activity, but that only one manager is assigned the activity at a time. You can also use an expression (see the Expression Builder Guide). |
Min # of People Needed | The minimum number of people who should be scheduled to work the specified activity at each interval during the time period specified by the rule’s settings. You can also use an expression (see the Expression Builder Guide). |
Disable Redeployment of Hours | The rule doesn’t borrow hours when adhering to base hours. This checkbox is cleared by default and rule borrows hours when adhering to base hours. |
Output KPI for minimums | The KPI to use to track the hours added to meet minimum base coverage. |
Output KPI for maximums |
The KPI to use to track the hours subtracted to meet the maximum base coverage. Note: Both the added and subtracted hours are stored in their respective KPIs as non-negative values. However, if the same KPI is used to store both the added and subtracted hours, then the KPI value will be the net total of added hours minus subtracted hours. |
Is covered by meals Is covered by breaks |
Determine whether base coverage is satisfied by scheduled meals or breaks. Select the checkboxes and the base coverage is satisfied by scheduled employees, even during their scheduled meals or breaks. Clear the checkboxes and additional employees are required to cover scheduled meals or breaks |
Time Period Start Basis |
Defines the base coverage’s start time:
|
Start Adjustment (minutes) | The number of minutes to offset the start of the base coverage, based on the start time that you select in the Time Period Start Basis drop-down list. To offset to an earlier start time, enter a negative value. To offset to a later start time, enter a positive value. |
Start Time Range | If you selected TimeRange in the Time Period Start Basis drop-down list, use this setting to specify the location daily property that defines the start of the base coverage. |
Time Start | If you selected Fixed in the Time Period Start Basis drop-down list, use this setting to define the specific time that the base coverage starts. |
Time Period End Basis |
Defines the base coverage’s end time:
|
End Adjustment (minutes) | The number of minutes to offset the end of the base coverage, based on the end time that you select in the Time Period End Basis drop-down list. To offset to an earlier end time, enter a negative value. To offset to a later end time, enter a positive value. |
End Time Range | If you selected TimeRange in the Time Period End Basis drop-down list, use this setting to specify the location daily property that defines the end of the base coverage. |
Time End | If you selected Fixed in the Time Period End Basis drop-down list, use this setting to define the specific time that the base coverage ends. |
Activity | The activity that employees must be scheduled to work to satisfy the base coverage. Only time that employees spend performing the selected activity counts toward the base coverage constraint. |
