In Pay Setup > Balances in the Units tab, you can define the format that Dayforce uses to show the balance unit. You can customize the balance format using the Display Format setting.
Display Format | Description |
---|---|
# |
Dayforce shows balance values using a configurable number of decimal places. For example, enter ###.## so that Dayforce shows balance amounts to two decimal places. When using this format, Dayforce marks balances of zero with a blank entry and doesn’t show decimal places for whole numbers:
|
N |
Dayforce shows balance values using the number of decimal places you specify after entering an N in the field. For example, enter N2 so that Dayforce shows balance amounts to two decimal places, while N4 would show balance amounts to four decimal places. When using this format, Dayforce marks balances of zero and shows decimal places for whole numbers:
As an exception, Dayforce doesn’t show zeros in the Grant column if the balance type isn’t grant-based. In this example, Vacation Hours is the only grant-based balance type:
|
HH:MM |
(Hours unit only) Dayforce shows hour-based balance values using the hours and minutes (HH:MM) format. Enter HH/MM in the Display Format field in the Hours row to use the HH:MM format:

Alternative Display Formulas and Formats
In Pay Setup > Balances in the Units tab, you can use the Alternative Display Formula field to configure balances with a different formula, which determines the way the balances are calculated from the stored value. You can also use the Alternative Display Format field to configure balances to be displayed using a different format.
You can configure these alternative formulas and formats so that Dayforce shows balances differently in certain features. For example, you can configure Dayforce to mask balances for certain roles in Approvals by:
- Entering “XXXX” in the Alternative Display Format field, and
- In System Admin > Roles in the Features tab, enabling the Enable Balance Display Conversion role feature under Application Container > Approvals.
