Auto Inject Breaks Examples

When auto inject settings are configured as follows:

  • The Validate Break is checkbox selected.
  • The Auto Inject Breaks checkbox is selected.
  • The Break Allocation section contains the following setting configuration:
    • Qualifying Shift Length is set to 5.
    • Duration is set to 15.
    • Occurrences is set to 1.

An employee scheduled from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, without any breaks, ends up working from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The employee takes a break at 4:00 PM, but can’t clock out for it without manager approval (as the Validate Break checkbox is selected in their time entry policy, and the employee doesn’t have a break scheduled). So, the employee takes the break without clocking out for it.

Because the employee worked a qualifying shift, Dayforce records a 15 minute break in the employee’s time and attendance records. Employees aren’t paid for their breaks, so by automatically recording the break, Dayforce helps to ensure employees are paid correctly.
