 Attendance Management Configuration

In Dayforce, attendance management is the process of tracking your employees’ attendance. With attendance management, you can customize the actions Dayforce takes when it detects employees with attendance incidents, such as a late start or a no-show.

This section is for system administrators and describes how to configure attendance management for your organization’s needs in Pay Setup > Attendance. It describes how to create attendance policies, which track incidents such as employees arriving to work late or missing scheduled shifts, how the occurrence of these incidents cause attendance violations, and what actions should be taken for these violations.

Before you set up attendance management, you might need to set up the following prerequisite functionality:

  • Pay codes: Pay codes represent what an employee was doing for a particular segment of time. Attendance management requires pay codes configured for each attendance incident that your organization tracks. For example, if you want to track when employees are late (up to 15 minutes after their scheduled start time), very late (over 15 minutes late), or a no-show, you need at least three additional pay codes: Late, V-Late, and NoShow.
  • See Pay Codes.
  • Time entry policies with the tardy rules enabledTime entry policies determine how employees can clock in and out for work. Attendance management requires a policy that’s configured with tardy rules. These rules dictate when Dayforce assigns different pay codes when employees clock in late or early. Continuing the example above, you’d create a time entry policy with tardy rules that mark up to 15 minutes late with the Late pay code and over 15 minutes late with the V-Late pay code.
  • See Time Entry Policies.

To set up attendance management, you must configure incident types, violations, grades, and grade tracks.

After you configure incident types, violations, grades, and grade tracks, you must configure a policy that takes these configuration tools and enforces them through a tracking framework that you can customize. This involves setting up either an attendance policy, an attendance rule policy, or both. These policy types are similar but with a few differences, and which policy type you choose to configure depends on your attendance tracking requirements:

After you configure a policy, there are some attendance background jobs that you might need to run or schedule. Additionally, you can set up some client properties that support attendance management functionality in Dayforce. Lastly, there are some best practices that you should follow to make sure that Dayforce attendance management features work properly:

After you configure attendance functionality in Pay Setup > Attendance, you can track your employee’s attendance in the Attendance Management feature. See Attendance Management in the Manager Guide.
