The Apply Job Rate Set Rule is used to implement the basic version of the job rate set functionality in Dayforce. Job rate sets and levels must already be configured in order for this rule to have any effect. See Job Rate Sets.
After job rate sets and levels have been configured using the basic configuration method, the Apply Job Rate Set Rule must be assigned to the appropriate pay policies. The rule defines how Dayforce determines which job set level employees fall under, in their job rate set.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Step value start date |
Determines the date which Dayforce begins calculating the step value. Dayforce compares the selected date to each level’s Step Value, and if the specified amount of time has passed beyond the date, the employee earns the corresponding pay rate for the level. See Configure Job Rate Sets and Levels. The start date can be based on:
|
| Step value type |
Determines the units of the job rate set level’s Step Value. The step value type can be based on years, months, days or hours:
|
| Exclude leap year day in years of service | Excludes leap year days when calculating years of service. |
| Job Sets Eligible Job Sets Ineligible |
The job sets that are eligible and ineligible when the rule runs. |
| Pay codes eligible for job set Pay codes ineligible for job set |
The pay codes that mark eligible and ineligible hours to be paid at an employee’s job level rate. |
| Pay categories eligible for job set Pay categories ineligible for job set |
The pay categories that mark eligible and ineligible hours to be paid at an employee’s job level rate. |
| Premiums eligible for job set | Select the Premiums eligible for job set checkbox to configure the rule to apply the job set level rate to eligible premiums. Clear the checkbox and Dayforce pays out premiums at their default rate. |
| Pay codes eligible as worked minutes Pay codes ineligible as worked minutes |
The pay codes that mark eligible and ineligible time that counts towards each level’s Step Value. |
| Pay categories eligible as worked minutes Pay categories ineligible as worked minutes |
The pay categories that mark eligible and ineligible time that counts towards each level’s Step Value. |
| Premiums contributes toward step value |
Includes time-based pay adjustments in the step value calculation. Clear the checkbox and Dayforce doesn’t include time-based premiums in the calculation. |
| Use Employee Statistics | Select an appropriate employee statistic from the drop-down list to restrict the rule to run for employees affected by the statistic. |
| Always use primary job set rate |
Select this checkbox and the rule uses the employee’s primary job rate set, regardless of what actual job is worked, and regardless of whether the rate that would be calculated for the secondary job is higher or lower than the primary. |
Apply Job Rate Set Rule Example
Example: Business Needs
Employees that are assigned to the Clerk job rate set progress through the set levels based on the number of months of service they have worked since their hire date. The “Clerks” job rate set is configured so that employees earn $12.50 an hour to start, then after working for three months earn $12.75 an hour, after six months $13 an hour, and beyond a year $13.50 an hour.
Example: Configuration
To configure the rule for this example:
- In the Step value start date drop-down list, click Employee Hire Date.
- In the Step value type drop-down list, click Months Of Service.
- In the Job Sets Eligible setting, click Clerks.
- In the Pay codes eligible for job set setting, click Work.
Example: Results
In this example, the “Clerks” job rate set is configured so that employees earn $12.50 an hour to start, then after working for 3 months earn $12.75 an hour, after 6 months $13 an hour, and beyond a year $13.50 an hour. The rule compares the number of months since an employee’s hire date to the step value of their job set and determines if the employee falls under the level. At each level, they're paid the corresponding rate.
