Add and Edit COBRA Event Reasons

To add a COBRA event reason:

  1. Go to Benefits Setup > COBRA Event Reason.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Enter a name for the event in the Name field. The text that you enter here shows in the Reason drop-down list in the COBRA tab of Benefits Administration and in the Benefits > COBRA screen of People.
  4. (Optional) Enter a description for the event in the Description field.
  5. Enter a unique cross-reference code for the event in the Reference Code field. This code identifies the event in the COBRA export.
  6. If you want Dayforce to automatically assign the reason to an event based on the employee and dependent eligibility, click in the Auto Assign Eligibility field and select a qualifier in the drop-down list.
  7. If you made a selection in the Auto Assign Eligibility field, in the Auto Assign QE Date field, select what kind of date Dayforce assigns as the qualifying event date. This is the date that shows in the Event Date field in the COBRA tab of Benefits Administration and in the Benefits > COBRA screen of People. The options in the drop-down list are as follows:
    • Coverage End Date: The date that the employee lost coverage.
    • Event Date: The date that the event which resulted in the employee's loss of coverage occurred.
  8. Click Save.

You can edit any field of the custom COBRA event reason at any time. Changes to eligibility or event date type only affect records generated after the change is made. If you change a reference code, you might need to reconcile this with the carrier receiving the COBRA export.
