Add and Assign Tip Type Groups

You can use tip type groups to group employee work assignments based on the type of tips employee can record when working that job. For example, some servers might be able to record both credit card and cash tips, while others can only record cash tips.

In cases where an employee has more than one work assignment, Dayforce determines which tip types to show using the following logic:

  • If the employee is scheduled to work a tipped job assignment, Dayforce shows the tip types associated with that job assignment.
  • If the employee is scheduled to work a non-tipped job assignment, but transfers to a tipped one, Dayforce shows the tip types associated with job assignment they transferred to.
  • If the employee isn't scheduled to work, and their primary work assignment is a tipped job assignment, Dayforce shows the tip types associated with their primary work assignment.
  • If the employee isn't scheduled to work, their primary work assignment is a non-tipped job assignment, and the employee transfers to a tipped job assignment, Dayforce shows the tip types associated with the job assignment they transferred to.
  • If the employee transfers from one tipped job assignment to another (regardless of whether they were scheduled to work), Dayforce shows the tip types associated with both job assignments.

To add tip type groups:

  1. Go to Pay Setup > Tips and click the Tip Type Group tab
  2. Click Add.
  3. Enter a name and, optionally, a description for the tip type group.
  4. (Optional) In the Reference Code field, enter a cross-reference code. This code must be unique and must not contain special characters.
  5. Move tip types from the Available column to the Current column using the arrows. For example, to allow employees to record only cash tips, move the Cash Tips tip type from the Available column to the Current column.
  6. Click Save.

After you add the necessary tip type groups, you can assign them to employees' work assignments using the Tip Type Group drop-down list in the Work > Work Assignments screen of the People feature. See Work > Work Assignments.
