This section describes how to add new competencies to your library. Adding competencies can also involve the following optional steps (which are described in the sections that follow):
- Associating a set of behaviors to a competency.
- Assigning a job or job assignment with a competency.
At a minimum, before saving your competency, you need to add your competency to the list and define its name.
To add a competency:
- Go to Performance Setup > Competency Setup.
- Click the Competencies tab.
- Click Create Competency in the toolstrip.
- Enter values in the Competency Name and Description fields.
- The description you add is made available to managers and employees to help them rate and provide feedback on the competency.
- Note: Each competency name must be unique.
- (Optional) Select the Core Competency checkbox to make this competency a core competency.
- Core competencies are assigned to all employees by default.
- (Optional) Select an option in the Competency Category drop-down list to assign a category.
- You define the available competency categories in the Competency Categories tab of Performance Setup > Competency Setup.
- Specify a start date in the Start Date field. By default, this field displays the current date.
- (Optional) Specify an end date in the End Date field.
- If you want to assign behaviors or jobs, continue to the next sections; otherwise click Save.
