Override Clock Entries and Shifts

The Dayforce Clock Pro and Clock+ run validations when employees clock in and out for work or start meals and breaks. Depending on how the clocks are configured, they might reject clock entries when they occur too late, too early, or on unscheduled days.

For example, employees can’t clock in if they’re over 30 minutes early or late. If an employee comes to work 40 minutes late, when they try to clock in, the clock rejects their input.

Note: For more information on which validations the clock performs, contact your system administrator.

You can perform the following types of overrides on the clocks.

Options for overriding employee data on the clocks
Override Type Description
Clock entry override

This type of override allows employees to clock in or out for shifts, meals, or breaks when it would normally be too early or too late to perform that clock entry type.

For example, an employee arrives at work 30 minutes early. Because of the settings configured in the employee’s time entry policy, clock entries earlier than 15 minutes before their scheduled start time are rejected on the clock. Instead, their supervisor overrides the clock to allow them to clock in early.

Shift override

This type of override allows supervisors to override all of the validations for an employee for an entire day. The override lasts the number of hours specified in the Unpaired Threshold client property (configured in System Admin > Client Properties in the Properties tab, in the Time and Attendance section). See Time and Attendance in the Dayforce Implementation Guide.

For example, with an unpaired threshold of 16 hours configured, all validations that the clock would normally perform are overridden for any clock entries that the employee makes in the next 16 hours.

To override clock entries or shifts:

  1. In the login screen, enter the badge number for the affected employee and click Submit. The clock shows the home screen with the Clock tab open, by default.
  2. Click View all clock functions. The All clock functions dialog box opens.
  3. Click Supervisor Mode. The Supervisor Mode dialog box opens.
  4. Select one of the following options:
    • Start Shift
    • Start Meal
    • Start Break
    • End Shift
    • End Meal
    • End Break
    • Shift Override
    • Start Shift (alternative version to clock in with a position transfer)
    • Schedule Transfer Override
    • Transfer Selection (Clock+ only)
  5. Enter your supervisor badge number.
  6. If you selected a start-shift, end-shift, or meal or break clock entry override option, the clock indicates if your override was accepted.
  7. If you selected an override option that involves transfers, specify the transfer details. The clock indicates if your override was accepted.
