The Dayforce Clock Pro and Clock+ support biometrics that, when configured, capture a mathematical representation of an employee’s fingerprints when they clock in. The clocks compare the representations of the fingerprints that were previously saved in the database and at the time of the clock entry. If the two match, the clock entry is accepted. If they don’t, it’s rejected.
The Dayforce Clock Pro supports an attachable external biometric reader. The Clock+ supports external biometric readers for fingerprint scanning. For more information about installing an external biometric reader for the Clock+, see Out-of-Browser Clock+ and Biometric Reader Installation.
The finger scan biometrics in Dayforce’s terminals can’t be used or manipulated to gain any personal information about the employee, because Dayforce’s biometric terminals don’t reproduce or capture a fingerprint. Instead, the terminals produce a numeric template from the unique swirls that are found in the pattern of the fingerprint and capillary patterns. The minutia or swirl pattern files can’t be reverse-engineered to reproduce the entire print because information is missing.
The clock device and host systems don’t store any images or fingerprints. Rather, the reader converts the scan to a numeric template that consists only of a string of numbers and letters that are useful only to the device. When a finger is scanned, prevalent points are mapped and recorded. After these points are mapped, they’re assigned a number value based on their location. These values are then fed into an algorithm to produce a biometric template.
The following is an example of what a biometric template looks like when it’s uploaded:

This removes any risk of an employee’s identity being compromised and effectively prevents employees from falsely representing themselves on the clocks.
The steps for enrolling employees for biometric verification and maintaining biometric templates are outlined below:
