Enroll Employees for Biometric Verification

The Dayforce Touch Clock is equipped with a biometric reader that can be used to capture a mathematical representation of employees’ fingerprints when they perform clock entries. When configured, the clock compares the representations of the fingerprints saved in the database to those submitted when clocking. If the fingerprints match, the clock accepts the clock entry. If the fingerprints don’t match, the clock entry is rejected.

The finger scan biometrics in Dayforce’s terminals can’t be used or manipulated to gain any personal information about the employee, because Dayforce’s biometric terminals don’t reproduce or capture a fingerprint. Instead, the terminals produce a numeric template from unique swirls found in the pattern of the fingerprint and capillary patterns. The minutia or swirl pattern files can’t be reverse-engineered to reproduce the entire print because information is missing.

There is no stored image or fingerprint on the device or host systems. Rather, the scan is converted to a numeric template that consists only of a string of numbers and letters that is useful only to the device. When a finger is scanned, prevalent points are mapped and recorded. After these points are mapped, they are assigned a number value based on their location. These values are then fed into an algorithm to produce a biometric template.

The following is an example of what a biometric template looks like when it is uploaded:

As you can see, the employee’s fingerprint isn’t being used. This removes any risk to their identity being compromised and still maintains a very effective way to prevent employees from falsely representing themselves on your time clocks.

To enroll an employee for biometric verification:

1. Go to the Supervisor Mode screen.
2. Tap Fingerprint Enrollment. The clock shows the Biometric Mode screen.
3. Tap Enroll Employee.
4. Enter the employee’s badge number.
5. After you enter a valid badge number, the clock prompts the employee to place their finger on the fingerprint sensor:

7. The fingerprint sensor scans the fingerprint in the following stages:

9. Note: Depending on your clock’s configuration, the employee might need to lift their finger between scans when prompted by the clock.
10. After the scan of the first finger is complete, the clock produces an audible alert and the green light flashes.
11. Depending on your clock’s configuration, the employee might need to place another finger on the screen for enrollment. In the following screenshot, the clock successfully scanned the employee’s first fingerprint, but requires an additional fingerprint:

13. After the employee’s fingerprint or fingerprints are scanned successfully, the employee can use biometric verification on the clock.

To cancel biometric enrollment without completing the scan, tap the X button in the bottom right corner.
