In the Content Builder section, you add questions to the survey. The questions are retrieved from Site Setup > Clock Surveys > Survey Question Setup and are already associated with answers. You can add as many questions as required and manually rearrange their placement in the hierarchy.
There are two types of hierarchies that you can use to structure your survey questions:
- Linear: A simplified, straightforward hierarchy. When you configure a survey with multiple questions using the linear hierarchy, the questions appear on the clock chronologically based on the hierarchy order.
- For more information on linear hierarchies, see Linear Hierarchies.
- Nested: A complex hierarchy that branches out depending on specific survey responses. When you configure a nested survey with multiple questions, the questions that appear on the clock can be context-sensitive and based on the employee’s response. For example, you can configure the survey so that if an employee selects Question A’s first response, Question B appears. Alternatively, if they select Question A’s second response, Question C appears.
- Click the Nested Questions checkbox to configure a nested hierarchy.
- Important: The Nested Questions checkbox is available only when you configure a new clock survey. You can’t change the hierarchy type for an existing survey that was already saved.
- See Nested Hierarchies.
To configure a linear hierarchy, make sure the Nested Questions checkbox is cleared. It should be cleared by default when you create a new survey.
Click Add Question to add a question to the survey. When you select one of your preconfigured questions to apply it to the survey, the application automatically populates the answer fields with the answers that are associated with the question.
If necessary, click the button again to add additional questions. Dayforce adds each question below the previous question you added in the hierarchy:
You can click and hold the rearrange icon () next to a question to manually change its placement in the hierarchy.
To configure a nested hierarchy, you must first click the Nested Questions checkbox. When selected, the toolstrip updates with additional buttons (Delete Question, Zoom In, and Zoom Out).
Click Add Question to add your first survey question. When you select one of your preconfigured questions to apply it to the survey, the application automatically populates the answer fields with the answers that are associated with the question.
Dayforce adds each question as a workflow node. Each question node contains connectors so that you can link your question nodes together to create branching paths for your survey hierarchy. Click a connector to create a link between the connector in a different question node. After you click the first connector, Dayforce adds a directional link when you click a valid connector in a different question node:
In this example screenshot, the survey begins with the “Your clock in/out times...” question. If an employee chooses the Yes response, the clock prompts them with the second question. Alternatively, if an employee chooses the No response, the survey concludes without showing the second question.
There are two connector types in each question node:
- Node connector: Creates incoming links to the question node, or outgoing routing links to another question node:
- The top and left connectors are identical and are used to create an inward link to the question node. The right and bottom connectors are also identical and create an outward link. There are duplicate connectors to support surveys that require multiple inward and outward links.
- Answer connector: Creates outgoing links based on specific survey answers:
- Use this connector to configure the survey to prompt employees with different questions depending on the answer they choose.
- Note: Each answer contains two identical connectors. There are duplicate connectors to support hierarchies where using the left or right connector makes more sense visually. You cannot output two links from the same answer that route to different question nodes.
- When multiple answers are connected to the same question node, Dayforce shows a drop-down list containing And and Or operators. Select And so that all links are required to trigger the question, or select Or so that the question is triggered when one of the links is established.
When you configure a survey with nested questions, make sure to create links between your question nodes in a logical manner. For example, in the screenshot below, the “Your clock in/out times...” question would never appear during a survey because the first question contains two responses that each route to a different question:
