Configure Answer Types

Answer types are the customized responses that you assign to your clock surveys. When users interact with a clock survey and review the questions or statements, they must choose a response option to complete the survey. You can also configure surveys so that they require no user response.

You can configure your clock surveys with three different response types, which dictate how users can interact with and respond to the survey.

Clock survey response types
Response Type Description
Single Response

With this response type, each clock survey question (or statement) contains two responses and the user must select one of them. For example, with this response type, you can create a consent survey where employees must choose between “I agree” and “I disagree” responses.

When you select the Single Response response type, you configure its responses in the Answer Type Options section:

Answer Type Options section containing "I agree" and "I disagree" responses.

Each Single Response response type that you configure must contain two responses. If you attempt to save the answer type when it contains only a single response, the application generates an error and indicates that the answer type requires two responses. Further, after you add two responses to this answer type, Dayforce doesn’t let you add a third response.

If necessary, you can change a response’s position in the hierarchy. To do this, click and hold the rearrange icon () to drag the response up or down. Alternatively, you can click the arrow icons on the right to change its position. You can also localize, edit, and delete each response.

Note: You can localize a response only after you save the response type.

Broadcast

With this response type, the clock survey doesn’t require a response from the user. You can use this response type to configure informational messages that the clock must show to users. These survey prompts only contain an option to close the prompt to complete the clock survey.

Because you can’t configure responses with the Broadcast response type, when you select this option, Dayforce hides the Answer Type Options section.

3-point Sentiment Scale

With this response type, each clock survey question (or statement) contains three sentiment responses and the user must select one of them. For example, with this response type, you can create a status survey where employees must record how they feel at the time of their clock survey interaction.

When you select the 3-point Sentiment Scale response type, you configure its responses in the Answer Type Options section:

Answer Type Options section showing poor, average, and good sentiment response options.

Click and hold the rearrange icon () to drag the response up or down. Alternatively, you can click the arrow icons on the right to change its position. You can also edit the default sentiment text for each response and localize each response.

Note: You can localize a response only after you save the response type.

You configure answer types in Site SetupClock SurveysSurvey Question Setup, in the Answer Types tab. In this tab, Dayforce shows each answer type that’s already configured in the left side panel.

You can customize as many answer types as needed to support your business requirements, with varying degrees of complexity. You can also associate your answer types with as many survey questions or statements as required. For more information on configuring survey questions, see Configure Questions.
